Pc Continues to Freeze While Pc is Still Running

Originally I thought my issue was game or even driver specific, but I ran into it again on a different game today, so I figured I should ask on here. So here goes.

My issue is that my computer will randomly freeze sometimes while playing games, and its usually in locations that aren't really graphics intensive. The three places it's happened so far are World of Warcraft (multiple times, several of those in the same area), Arma 3 (only once), and now Tom Clancy's The Division Open Beta (twice in the same area). I originally thought it was just an issue with World of Warcraft, but then it happened on Arma 3, and after a while it stopped happening altogether. Just today I tried the Division Open Beta and it happened again.
I can still hear sound just fine, which in and of itself isnt that strange: a sound file could be really long and just continue to play while the computer is frozen, but I can still hear people talking over VOIP too, however, unlike other similar issues that I've read about, I cannot interact with the program at all. Clicking, pushing buttons, etc do not produce any new sounds, and the people on VOIP cannot hear me talking to them.
I cannot alt-tab, ctrl+alt+del, or really do anything. I have to hard reboot.

What drives me insane is that no errors show up in Event Viewer or even in WhoCrashed, so I have no idea what is causing it. I have an Antec 1200W PSU, so I dont think it's a lack of power.

I've read around and didnt see anything that helped, and the few threads I saw that were similar didn't sound like my issue.

Here's what Ive tried:
-Updating graphics drivers, clean installation
-Ccleaner
-Checking Event Viewer (nothing shows up, there were event logs for Nvlddmkm crashes, but the critical crashes produce no events except loss of power to the kernel when I hard reset)
-Turning off power save in the Ethernet adapter options
-Benchmarking drives via Defraggler (both turned up "GOOD")
-Ran mdsched with 2 passes (returned no issues)
-Rolling back graphics drivers

Im running a GTX 770 with 16GB RAM on an i7 4930k, 64 bit Windows 7. I think the CPU has been factory overclocked from 3.4GHz to 4.0GHz, since I get an error message saying "overclocking failed" whenever I hard reboot my computer.

Ive read people suggesting a mobo issue, but really I'd like to see if there's anything else it could be, since Im not really in a position to replace my mobo right now.

I can post dxdiag and msinfo reports if needed.

I should note that turning all the settings down from High (auto-detected) to Medium kept me from crashing in that area, and turning down one of the settings on WoW has kept me from crashing since too, but why are graphics causing my whole computer to freeze? Especially on a GTX 770?

If there are no errors, yet you continue to have a problem - then the most likely problem is a hardware malfunction that occurs outside of the range that Windows is able to see.

Actually, most of the freezing with sound still playing errors that I've seen are due to problems with the video card (NOT the motherboard).

But we'll have a look at the logs and will ask you to run some tests so we can (hopefully) nail the problem down.

Let's try looking at these reports:

1) Please run this report collecting tool (even though you may not be reporting BSOD's) so we can provide a complete analysis: http://omgdebugging.com/bsod-inspector/
When done a Notepad document will open with the name of the file and it's location.
By default it'll be a .zip file located on your Desktop
Simply upload the .zip file with your next post and we'll move on from there.
2) Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog)
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on the "Administrative Events" heading
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

Whenever there are system freezes, I make it a SOP to immediately test the memory. It's easy, doesn't take a lot of time, and occasionally I find that is the culprit. I suggest testing each stick at a time if you have multiple SIMMs. I use Memtest 86+, but there are numerous utilities out there.

I'll look into doing this but I have to find a free flash drive lying around somewhere, lol.

So far all I've done in this regard is mdsched

I ran FurMark:

With 8x Anti Aliasing, the GPU reach 72 degrees in around 3 minutes at 18 FPS. I shut it down manually at 72, I didnt want it to get any higher.

Without Anti Aliasing, the GPU reached 72 degrees in under a minute at 52 FPS. Again I shut it down manually at 72.

Edit:

Ran Prime95 on 12 cores for 10 minutes for a quick benchmark. All cores stayed between 48 and 52 degrees Celsius.

Let Furmark run until the temperature levels out. It's OK to let it get up to 90ºC as long as you watch it and shut it off at that point.

Prime95's blend test primarily tests RAM. Try the other tests (small FFT's and large FFT's) to stress CPU cache and the memory controller

Admin logfile shows lot's of errors with:

- worldofwarships

- Avast

- Steam

Please uninstall all of them (and enable Windows Defender and the Windows firewall) and see if that helps

Only 302 Windows Update hotfixes installed. Most systems with SP1 have 400 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

C: drive only has about 8% free space. Windows likes 15% free space in order to perform stuff "behind the scenes" without adversely affecting the system's performance. Please free up 15% on ALL hard drives (you can get away with 10% on larger drives and won't notice a large performance penalty)

This device has problems in Device Manager:

Base System Device PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0EB6&SUBSYS_84EF1043&REV_04\3&4F11E61&0&86 The drivers for this device are not installed.

This looks like a Memory Controller driver - which is a part of the Chipset drivers.

Please visit the motherboard manufacturer's website to download and install the latest, W7 compatible version.

MSI Afterburner and Riva Tuner (along with EVGA Precision) is known to cause BSOD's in some Windows systems (it's driver is usually RTCore64.sys). Please un-install them immediately!

If you're overclocking, please stop the overclock while we're troubleshooting. Feel free to resume the overclock once the system has been stabilized.

The issue with worldofwarships as far as Im aware is the game attempts to load a model file that is corrupt.

Uninstalling Steam is sort of a no-go for me. I could uninstall Avast, but is Windows Defender really going to cut it over Avast?

Should I get even the optional updates? I have no primary updates waiting.

I went ahead and cleared up 44.5GB out of 238GB usable on OS Drive, there's 103GB and 85.6GB remaining out of 931GB on each of the supporting drives, respectively.

Ive tried updating my drivers within the past month and most of them showed up as being older than what I had already installed. Here's the driver page: https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/P9X79_LE/HelpDesk_Download/

None of the chipset drivers have been updated since 2014.

As Avast is causing problems, I don't think that there is room to criticize Windows Defender at this point.

Should you want to go back to Avast, feel free to reinstall it after we're finished troubleshooting

Please get ALL available updates. The only one's I suggest skipping are Skype and Win10 (if you don't want them).

This is your system and you can do what you want with it.

All updates have been installed, ran Prime95 with Small FFTs (all cores settled between 50 and 61 degrees Celsius) and Large FFTs (all cores settled between 40 and 51 degrees Celsius). I only ran them for long enough to make sure the temperatures were remaining steady, so if I need to run either for longer, please let me know.

All Windows updates have been installed, Avast has been uninstalled.

Edit: I missed the part where you said to rerun Furmark. I just reran it and it remained steady at 80 degrees Celsius at native resolution with no AA.
